- Astonishingly one of the main contributors to Mexic's independence was of Afriac descent. Vincente Guerreo, was born in 1783 to an African Mexican father and An Indian Mother. Guerro would join rebel forces in 1810, and become commander in chief of the rebel forces after the leaders assassination. Guerrero would contribute to the creation of the “El plan de Iguala" a seriea of measures hat guarnteed equal treatment to all of Mexico's ethnic groups. Guerrero would go on to become elected as Mexico's second president in 1829, and formally abolish slavery.
